iPhone 15 Ultra: Everything We Know So Far
Recently released reports suggested that the iPhone 15 Ultra will replace the Pro Max position of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple’s naming theme has been changing lately. We have seen M1 Ultra and then the Apple Watch Ultra instead of the Apple Watch Pro, which we all expected.
The new name was reported by several credible sources, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman. The iPhone 15 Ultra will be the most expensive model for 2023 that will replace the Pro Max model. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple wants to broaden the gap between the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max and hence the Ultra. The Ultra could be more expensive than the Pro Max, i.e., above $1100.
The iPhone 15 lineup will likely comprise four models, including the new iPhone 15 Ultra. The other models could be the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro. This article will discuss the iPhone 15 Ultra, its specifications, price, and release date. So read on!
iPhone 15 Ultra Design
Tipster Ice Universe has shared CAD-based renders of the iPhone 15 Ultra on his Twitter account. Compared to 14 Pro Max, the bezel is narrower but thicker. It will pack Titanium alloy middle frame with a frosted process and USB Type-C. There is no physical button (We may see Solid-State Buttons with Pro models).
iPhone 15 series shows up in the most beautiful concept video yet. YouTube channel “Technizo Concept” has released a concept video showing a rumoured titanium frame, USB-C port, and other slight design changes.
When can we expect iPhone 15 Ultra to be released?
- Apple will likely release its new iPhone 15 Ultra on September 12, 2023 (Expected) alongside the rest of the iPhone 15 lineup.
We will update you when the official date is revealed. Apple has a consistent timeline for the release of iPhones. Apple releases iPhones in September each year. Usually, it’s either the first or the second week of the month. For instance, the iPhone 14 lineup was released on September 7, 2022. So we can expect the iPhone 15 Ultra to be released around the same time frame.
As per a report, UK Apple Store employees should be present in the store between September 15 and October 7, 2023 (they can’t take time off). This suggests iPhone 15 series could be unveiled in the second week of September 2023.
However, Apple could make changes at any moment as it is too early to speculate on the release of next year’s flagship iPhone 15 Ultra
iPhone 15 Ultra Expected Specifications
Leaks about the iPhone 15 Ultra have been surfacing the web since before the launch of the iPhone 14. Following these leaks, a renowned Apple tipster, LeaksApplePro, shared some details about the upcoming iPhone 15 Ultra. Here, we will talk about the details shared by LeaksApplePro.
All iPhone 15 models, including the iPhone 15 Ultra, will have USB-C for the first time in iPhone’s history. Apple is also reportedly working on 8K video recording for the iPhone 15 Ultra. However, the leaker says that he is unsure whether the 8K recording will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Ultra or not. The feature might also be available for the iPhone 15 Pro.
The iPhone 15 Ultra might still carry the same screen size as its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The screen could be an improved OLED display. All iPhone 15 models, including 15 Ultra, will feature Dynamic Island.
As for the design, the iPhone 15 Ultra will likely inherit the same boxy design as the iPhone 14. But one major change will be the inclusion of USB-C. We may also see Apple introducing faster charging with USB-C.
As for the cameras, we may see a 48MP primary lens with improved performance. We may also see an increase in the sensor size. As for the other cameras, 12MP will likely be the standard with improved aperture, low-light performance, and more.
In terms of performance, the iPhone 15 Ultra will have the upcoming Apple A17 Bionic chipset. The chipset will also power the iPhone 15 Pro. The A17 Bionic could be way more power-efficient than the already super-efficient A16 Bionic. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus may have last year’s A16 Bionic chip. He said he would soon share more information about the upcoming A17 Bionic.
The battery life on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is already unbeatable. Apple is also looking forward to 3-4 hours of increase in battery life on the iPhone 15 Ultra, claims the tipster. This could translate to a larger battery or a more efficient chip and software.
The iPhone 15 Ultra could become the bulkiest iPhone ever if Apple opts for a larger battery. For instance, the current iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs 240 grams, which is pretty bulky. Increasing the battery size will only make it fatter. However, Apple could also work on making the A17 Bionic more efficient and improving the battery life.
As for the software, the iPhone 15 Ultra will run on the upcoming iOS 17. The iPhone 15 Ultra will also receive 5 to 6 years of software support, similar to its predecessors.
As per a well-known whistleblower, LeaksApplePro, “The iPhone 15 Ultra will be made out of titanium“. So the middle metal frame of the handset could be made of titanium alloy instead of Stainless Steel.
iPhone 15 Ultra Expected Pricing
- iPhone 15 Ultra could be priced at $1299 in the US for the base variant.
Apple is looking forward to widening the gap between the Pro and the Pro Max iPhone by replacing the Pro Max with the Ultra. This gap also includes the pricing. Over the years since iPhone 11, we have seen a $100 price difference between the Pro and Pro Max. However, Apple is expected to increase this price difference to $200 with the iPhone 15 Ultra.
As per LeaksApplePro, the iPhone 15 Ultra will cost substantially more to manufacture than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This suggests the Ultra model may cost over $1099(iPhone 14 Pro Max’s starting price).
These are only the early expectations, and you take these with a pinch of salt. There is a whole year to release the iPhone 15 Ultra; hence, things may alter over time. What do you think of the upcoming iPhone 15 Ultra? Is it a great decision by Apple? Stay tuned for further details on the same, as we will keep updating the post over time.
