The 2022 Subaru Forester gets a more trucklike look, but the cabin remains as comfortable and functional as ever.

The Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive, just like the majority of other Subaru vehicles. Similar features are given by popular rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4,

but both come with more potent gasoline and hybrid powertrains, making the Forester seem weak in comparison.

What's New for 2022?

For 2022, Subaru has updated the Forester SUV with new wheels, blockier-looking front headlamps, and a revised grille.

The Forester has optional gesture controls for the temperature control system and a panoramic sunroof on all but the lowest model.

All models have a torque-vectoring system, Subaru's SI-Drive driving mode choice, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an auto start-stop four-cylinder engine.

17-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and body-color sideview mirrors make it look less like a rental car.

The interior features a panoramic sunroof, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, reclining rear seatbacks, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

All Forester versions have the same 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine that makes 182 horsepower and tows 1500 pounds.

The Forester handles well for a non-sporty SUV. The ride is smooth and elegant, the steering is correct, and the brakes are firm.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Forester's EPA fuel-economy ratings (26 city/33 highway) match those of several compact crossovers.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Subaru Forester's cabin is simple, with a solid driving position and adequate visibility.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A touchscreen infotainment system utilising Subaru's newest Starlink interface is standard on all Forester variants.

Front-seat passengers get two USB ports; rear-seat passengers have two additional on the back of the centre console.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on lower models and provide turn-by-turn directions from the user's device.
